This is the first of three blog entries. Today we are introducing the following impeccable venues:Osborn Castle at Cat Rock and The Garrison, both located in Garrison New York, the beautiful Hudson Highlands region.

Happily, weddings continue to be planned as full weekends or even week long celebrations; quality time with family and friends.

Destination weddings are fabulous but often times at the expense of feeling as though you have a firm grasp on your special day.

There are many destination spots that are not too far away, enabling you to visit well enough to feel and be in control. For folk not local to Long Island, you have the Hamptons, which always feels a little bit further than you remembered it being the last time you headed out there, especially if you hit the road on Friday afternoon.  Don’t get me wrong, there is nowhere I would rather be than a quiet beachfront. But aren’t you going to be at the beach on your honeymoon?  I simply ask you to consider the Hudson Valley!

The selection of event and wedding venues of Hudson Valley has been growing in recent years. Beautiful venues with better than average staffs, foodie-friendly cuisine, breathtaking views, venues with their own designs that evoke fully flushed out atmospheres to build upon rather than cover-up and one-of-a-kind features that make them each special in their own right.

The area offers many activites for people staying the weekend. Historical sites such as Boscobel House & Gardens (also a wedding venue site for a tented affair) and museums such as the cutting edge and famous Dia Art Foundation most well know for its first location in Chelsea NYC. For more art attractions you can visit Art Along The Hudson. From hiking and biking trails, to stopping at the Woodbury Commons Outlet Mall on you way into the area, the most popular premium outlet in all of america. Plus, if you are a foodie such as myself, southern to northern hudson valley is blanketed with fabulous cuisine both upscale and more casual restaurants, a spin off of the famous CIA - Culinary Institute of America located in Hyde Park, NY. Visit Edible Hudson Valley for some great dining recommendations.

This historic, family owned Castle sits on a 100 acre estate. Still Hank Osborn and his father’s year round residential home, this venue offers an intimate setting at its finest, rife with history of the Hudson River Valley. In addition, your funds go to great use, as the family is always looking for ways to restore their grounds and they contribute significantly to the preservation and charm of the region.

Hosting your wedding at The Obsorn Castle at Cat Rock gives you the freedom to select your own off-site caterer, as well as, other vendors. There is nothing in house, as this this venue is a private home. If you were to host a larger event of wedding at Castle, we do recommend looking at the other venue below, The Garrison, as your rehearsal dinner site. Both are within the same town.

The Garrison is a 300-acre property with sweeping 360 degree views of the Hudson River and surrounding mountainous landscape. Open March through December, The Garrison offers guests an 18-hole golf course with stunning views, a critically-acclaimed fine dining restaurant called Valley, overnight accommodations in the four-room Inn (member of Small Elegant Hotels and Vintage Hudson Valley), private event spaces for weddings and celebrations, and salon and personal-training services.

This venue is a rare find because of both the views and the caliber of their cuisine. Their event spaces are adorned with large picture windows, bringing the outdoors inside. The event spaces speak to a few types of atmospheric design; any sort of elegant design, modern design, as well as a design that is more rustic and wild, bringing the outdoors inside. In addition, they have a breathtaking ceremony space with the Hudson Highlands as the back drop, complete with a one of a kind ceremony pergola that is perfect as is or can be dressed up with fabric or flowers or both. Lastly, the Garrison’s staff has experience that is hard to find, outshining the average event venue.
