Part 1 of 2 - Venue picks with Ashley from Ashley Douglas Events.  Today we are featuring the gorgeous Inn at Windmill Lane located at 23 Windmill Lane in Amagansett, New York.  But first I’d like to get Ashley’s perspective on choosing a venue for your wedding…

Tessie: What do you look for in a venue?

Ashley: First, you want to make sure that a venue has many of the details that your client is looking for. Whether it is flexibility in regards to menu creation, waterfront views, overnight accommodations at the same location, etc.  Beyond this I look for three qualities in particular.  For one I would love my couples to be getting married at a venue that they can return to for years to come.  So if their venue is a B & B that is perfect.  If they are getting married in a wedding factory the only reason they would return to that venue is to get married again! Adding to this idea, I do not find it acceptable for another wedding to be going on at the same time, unless the client is okay with this.  Secondly, I look for a staff that is kind, calm under pressure and takes the requests of their clients seriously.  Let me add, it is a plus when your contact at the venue, albeit catering manager or event coordinator, has a lot of control, otherwise there can be a large juxtaposition between what the client desires and what the big boss wants of the event coordinator. Third, you want your venue to feel exclusive and private; hotel guests should not be walking by the reception hall with luggage or peaking in to check out the excitement. If a venue does not possess all of these qualities, they are not appropriate for the more discerning of clients.

Tessie:  How would you describe The Inn at Windmill Lane?  It is one of my newfound favorite locations on Long Island!

Ashley: The Inn at Windmill Lane is a new property and the most beautiful, charming place I have ever been on Long Island. It is a beautiful, upscale, modern and comfortable B & B.  Families hosting large events and weddings close down the property and experience it just as though it were their own home. They also have one cottage perfect for a small affair for up to about 50 people. Stunning furnishings, quality details and gallery worthy art-work make this a one of a kind special location.

Inn at Windmill Lane has Sperry tents custom made to fit their back lawn and garden that is landscaped to wedding perfection. Rose and kiwi garden arbors placed strategically to create optimal flow from ceremony to reception. The gardens are the perfect size to be large enough for an event up to 200 yet not cavernous for a small affair. There is also a sunken garden area covered in slate tile with hydrangea bushes surrounding; a perfect space to bring in lounge furniture or host games such as polo or a game of life size Jenga and more.

Last but not least, friends and family can enjoy a yummy breakfast in the communal full service kitchen every morning with house made muffins and pastries. In addition, this kitchen is fit for a private chef; double ovens, a Viking stove and a huge marble island. This property is owned and operated by the same talented team at Meeting House in Amagansett.

Take a look…Wouldn't you love to host your private affair of Wedding at The Inn at Windmill Lane!
